Colonialism, Reconciliation and the First Nations Bible

Adrian Jacobs is a Cayuga First Nation member of the Six Nations Haudenosaunee Confederacy of the Grand River Territory, Ont. He is an artist, writer, Indigenous advocate, entrepreneur, and public speaker and currently serves as the Senior Leader for Indigenous Justice and Reconciliation for the CRC Canada. In collaboration with the Canadian Indigenous Ministries Committee, Indigenous Elders, and senior Canadian CRCNA leaders, Adrian’s work is focused on supporting and empowering existing Indigenous ministry centers. His work also includes holding the CRC in Canada accountable for their commitment to reconciliation as well as challenging the Canadian CRC to make justice and reconciliation a key aspect of our CRC ministry.

In this on-line conversation, Adrian will be reflecting on the First Nations Bible (FNV), how & why it came to be and its role in promoting gospel reconciliation in Canada. Passages from the FNV will be enjoyed and time given for interaction with Adrian.

Facilitators: Liz Tolkamp is currently facilitating a Hearts Exchanged Cohort. Hearts Exchanged prepares Christians to build relationships with Indigenous communities that are marked by mutual respect and reciprocity. Wilma van der Leek is the Servant Leadership curator of the 1Life learning hub. As a Bible teacher, she has a huge appreciation for the value of different translations of the Bibles.
