SUMMARY:Colonialism\, Reconciliation and the First Nations Bible
DESCRIPTION:Adrian Jacobs is a Cayuga First Nation member of the Six Nations Haudenosaunee Confederacy of the Grand River Territory\, Ont. He is an artist\, writer\, Indigenous advocate\, entrepreneur\, and public speaker and currently serves as the Senior Leader for Indigenous Justice and Reconciliation for the CRC Canada. In collaboration with the Canadian Indigenous Ministries Committee\, Indigenous Elders\, and senior Canadian CRCNA leaders\, Adrian’s work is focused on supporting and empowering existing Indigenous ministry centers. His work also includes holding the CRC in Canada accountable for their commitment to reconciliation as well as challenging the Canadian CRC to make justice and reconciliation a key aspect of our CRC ministry. \nIn this on-line conversation\, Adrian will be reflecting on the First Nations Bible (FNV)\, how & why it came to be and its role in promoting gospel reconciliation in Canada. Passages from the FNV will be enjoyed and time given for interaction with Adrian. \nFacilitators: Liz Tolkamp is currently facilitating a Hearts Exchanged Cohort. Hearts Exchanged prepares Christians to build relationships with Indigenous communities that are marked by mutual respect and reciprocity. Wilma van der Leek is the Servant Leadership curator of the 1Life learning hub. As a Bible teacher\, she has a huge appreciation for the value of different translations of the Bibles.

DESCRIPTION:Circle of Grace is a Christian safe environment curriculum used and promoted in the CRCNA that helps teach the value of positive relationships with God and others. Circle of Grace educates and empowers children and young people to actively participate in a safe environment both for themselves and with others. \nIt is never too early to help children understand how they are created in the image of God and how\nrelationships in life are called to be sacred. Understanding this can help children and youth protect\nthemselves\, while at the same time be respectful of and toward others. \nCircle of Grace helps children and youth know how to: \n\nIdentify and maintain appropriate physical\, emotional\, spiritual\, and sexual boundaries.\nRecognize when boundary violations are about to occur.\nDemonstrate how to take action when boundaries are threatened or violated.\n\nKey Concepts of Circle of Grace: \n\nGod gives each of us a Circle of Grace where God is present.\nGod is present because God desires a relationship with us.\nGod helps us know what belongs in our Circle of Grace & what does not belong in our Circle of Grace.\nGod helps us know when to ask for help from someone we trust.\n\nNote: Circle of Grace is intended to supplement a K-12 church education curriculum for 1-4 weeks per year. DESCRIPTION:This workshop will introduce council members and other church leadership teams to the practice of intentionally seeking God’s will for their faith community. But what is discernment? How is it different from taking a vote or winning a debate? Participants will be introduced to a clear but rich process of Biblical discernment outlined in Ruth Haley Barton’s book Pursuing God’s Will Together. DESCRIPTION:Let’s discover anew what it means to be God’s people discovering and participating in God’s mission today! \nWe all know the world has changed but understanding the impact that has had on the church and knowing how to respond are harder to figure out. In fact\, exploring that question is an adaptive challenge that reminds us to seek to discern what God is up to in the midst of this “great unravelling.” \nIn this online workshop\, participants will consider these changes\, their implications and how they are\, by the work of the Spirit\, leading the church to a renewed understanding of what it means to be God’s people joining the Spirit on God’s mission in their neighborhoods. \nDesired Outcomes\nParticipants will . . .\n– Be able to identify five changes/adaptive challenges that help describe our ‘new’ world;\n– Reflect on where their church is at in terms of responding to these changes;\n– Begin to identify the ancient-new way of being the church in their context;\n– Explore in an introductory way\, the questions\, postures and practices that might help us to discover anew what it means to be God’s people discovering and participating in God’s mission in our neighborhoods.
